The day of Sankranti has a special significance. Sankranti means ‘San’ (coming together) and ‘Kranti’ (a big change). The entry of the Sun into Makararasi (Capricorn) heralds the beginning of a great change from this day. It marks the entry into a Divine phase. It signifies the attempt to turn man’s mind towards God. It is a day when we pray to the Sun, who is the presiding deity for the eyes, to direct our vision to the pure and the holy, the sacred and the Divine. The real meaning of Purusharthas (goals of human life) is to make use of time and the circumstances as they arise for making one’s life meaningful and sublime. We have to effect a remarkable spiritual transformation in the world today. Only then the observance of Makara Sankranti will have a meaning. External changes with no change in one’s outlook and attitude will not signify kranti. Der Tag Sankranti hat eine besondere Bedeutung. Sankranti bedeutet ‚San’ (Zusammenkommen) und ‚Kranti‘ (eine große Veränderung). Der Eintritt der Sonne in Makararasi (Steinbock) läutet den Beginn einer großen Veränderung an diesem Tag ein. Er markiert den Eintritt in eine göttliche Phase. Er steht für den Versuch, den Geist des Menschen auf Gott auszurichten. Es ist ein Tag, an dem wir zur Sonne beten, welche die vorsitzende Gottheit für die Augen ist, damit sie unseren Blick auf das Reine und Heilige, das Heilige und Göttliche lenkt. Die wahre Bedeutung der Purusharthas (Ziele des menschlichen Lebens) besteht darin, die Zeit und Umstände, die sich ergeben, zu nutzen, um das eigene Leben sinnvoll und erhaben zu gestalten. Wir müssen in der heutigen Welt eine bemerkenswerte spirituelle Transformation bewirken. Nur dann wird die Einhaltung von Makara Sankranti einen Sinn haben. Äußere Veränderungen, ohne dass sich die eigene Einstellung und Haltung ändert, bedeuten nicht Kranti. Wenn wir eine große spirituelle Transformation herbeiführen, dann wird es echten Frieden geben.
