Love directed to the Lord is called devotion, and it is the easiest of all the paths to realise the goal. Devotion can be spoken of as having several stages. There is the stage where service of the Lord alone matters and is its own reward! The devotee does not seek anything more than just service of the highest, done to the utmost of one’s capacity. This gradually becomes the stage where nothing except the Name and Form of the Beloved is cognised! For treading the path of devotion, one needs no scholarship or wealth or riches or ascetic rigours. Tell Me, what was the lineage of robber-turned-sage Valmiki, the wealth of Kuchela, scholarship of Sabari, the age of Prahlada, the status of Gajaraja, the attainments of Vidura? Love! Die auf den Herrn gerichtete Liebe wird Hingabe genannt, und sie ist der einfachste aller Wege, um das Ziel zu erreichen. Bei der Hingabe kann man von mehreren Stufen sprechen. Es gibt die Stufe, in der allein der Dienst am Herrn zählt und seine eigene Belohnung ist! Der Gottgeweihte strebt nach nichts anderem als nach dem Dienst am Höchsten, den er bis zum Äußersten seiner Fähigkeiten leistet. Dies wird allmählich zu dem Stadium, in dem nichts außer dem Namen und der Gestalt des Geliebten erkannt wird! Um den Pfad der Hingabe zu beschreiten, braucht man weder Gelehrsamkeit noch Reichtum oder asketische Strenge. Sagt mir, was war die Abstammung des zum Räuber gewordenen Weisen Valmiki, der Reichtum von Kuchela, die Gelehrsamkeit von Sabari, das Alter von Prahlada, der Status von Gajaraja, die Errungenschaften von Vidura? Liebe! Das war alles, was sie hatten, und das war alles, was sie brauchten!
