In Vidya, “Vid” stands for illumination and “Ya” for that. Therefore, that which gives illumination and light is Vidya (education). That which gives you light and sheds your ignorance and that which gives you wisdom and superior knowledge can alone be called Vidya. From time immemorial, our country has been the leader of all the countries in the world. It had enjoyed the position of leadership in this world, and that is the kind of sacredness that we have enjoyed in the past. Because there are no leaders today who can set an example of such an ideal life and who can hand on such ideals to other countries, we have fallen on bad times. The main reason for this is that in the people, there is no co-ordination between the words that they utter and the acts that they do. You are all the future citizens of Bharath. The entire prosperity and welfare of the country rests on your shoulders. Your lives and your hearts are pure and sacred. They are unwavering. I am hoping that you will not allow the confusion and anarchy prevailing in the country to confuse your pure, unwavering, and sacred minds; and I am hoping that you will develop into ideal citizens of this country. – Divine Discourse, May 20, 1976.

In Vidya steht ‚Vid‘ für Erleuchtung und ‚Ya‘ für das. Daher ist das, was Erleuchtung und Licht gibt, Vidya (Bildung). Das, was euch Licht gibt und eure Unwissenheit vertreibt, und das, was euch Weisheit und überlegenes Wissen gibt, kann allein Vidya genannt werden. Von jeher war unser Land führend unter allen Ländern der Welt. Es hatte die Führungsposition in dieser Welt inne, und das ist die Art von Heiligkeit, die wir in der Vergangenheit genossen haben. Weil es heute keine Führer mehr gibt, die ein solch ideales Leben vorleben und solche Ideale an andere Länder weitergeben können, sind wir in schlechte Zeiten geraten. Der Hauptgrund dafür ist, dass es in den Menschen keine Koordination zwischen den Worten, die sie äußern, und den Taten, die sie tun, gibt. Sie alle sind die zukünftigen Bürger von Bharath. Der gesamte Wohlstand und das Wohlergehen des Landes ruhen auf euren Schultern. Euer Leben und eure Herzen sind rein und heilig. Sie sind unerschütterlich. Ich hoffe, dass ihr nicht zulassen werdet, dass die Verwirrung und Anarchie, die im Land herrscht, euren reinen, unerschütterlichen und heiligen Geist verwirrt; und ich hoffe, dass ihr euch zu idealen Bürgern dieses Landes entwickeln werdet. – Sri Sathya Sai, 20.
