Riches and wealth are short-lived; office and authority are temporary; life-breath is a flickering flame in the wind. Youth is a three-day fair. Pleasures and fortunes are bundles of sorrow. Knowing this, if man devotes this limited term of life to the service of the Lord, then, he is indeed blessed. Seek refuge at the Feet of the Lord even before the life-breath flies out of the cage of the body. It is an open cage! Any moment, the bird may fly into the outer regions. That is the fact. The ignorant do not realise this; they beat their drums and proclaim proudly how rich they are or how happy they are, surrounded by sons and grandsons. Alas, the very physical frame which is so carefully nourished since birth rots and falls aside! What then shall we say of those who feel that these other things are “mine”? Theirs is but a delusion of an insane mind. Everything is untrue, everything is impermanent; castles in the air, constructions in dreams. Reichtum und Wohlstand sind kurzlebig; Amt und Autorität sind vorübergehend; Lebensatem ist eine flackernde Flamme im Wind. Die Jugend ist ein dreitägiger Jahrmarkt. Vergnügungen und Vermögen sind Bündel von Kummer. Wenn der Mensch dies weiß und diese begrenzte Lebenszeit dem Dienst an Gott widmet, dann ist er in der Tat gesegnet. Sucht Zuflucht zu den Füßen des Herrn, noch bevor der Lebensatem aus dem Käfig des Körpers fliegt. Es ist ein offener Käfig! Jeden Augenblick kann der Vogel in die äußeren Regionen fliegen. Das ist die Tatsache. Die Unwissenden erkennen das nicht; sie schlagen ihre Trommeln und verkünden stolz, wie reich sie sind oder wie glücklich sie sind, umgeben von Söhnen und Enkeln. Ach, der physische Körper, der seit der Geburt so sorgfältig genährt wurde, verrottet und fällt zur Seite! Was soll man dann von denen sagen, die meinen, dass diese anderen Dinge „mein“ seien? Das ist nur eine Wahnvorstellung eines wahnsinnigen Geistes. Alles ist unwahr, alles ist unbeständig; Luftschlösser, Konstruktionen in Träumen. Besinnt euch auf diese Wahrheit, nähert euch Sri Hari und verherrlicht ihn; nur das kann euch dauerhafte Freude schenken! – Sathya Sai spricht, Band 6, Kapitel 38.
