If man yields to the mind and its vagaries, and the mind is enslaved by the senses and their fancies, man cannot escape calamity. The mind prompts man to seek happiness, and avoid misery; it creates the distinction and deludes the activity; it pushes forward and pulls back, tossing man back and forth, throughout his life. The idea of happiness, which is often only another form of comfort, arises in the mind and gets concretised as objects shaped by the hands and brains of man like the aeroplane, the radio, and even the bomb that devastates and delights the mind saturated with hate. Ideas, desires, cravings, yearnings – these get actualised and so, the world is only the product of the mind. In fact, the Universe is itself the manifestation of the Divine Mind, which willed, Ekoham bahusyam: “I am one, let Me become many!” The Universe arose in the mind of God, it sprouted and spread there, and since then, the mind has become potent and permeating. For each of you, it is the mind that colours the world. If it is pure, the world is congenial; if it is unclean, the world is replete with jeopardy. – Divine Discourse, Jul 23, 1971.

Wenn der Mensch dem Verstand und seinen Launen nachgibt und der Verstand von den Sinnen und ihren Launen versklavt wird, kann er dem Unglück nicht entkommen. Der Verstand drängt den Menschen dazu, das Glück zu suchen und das Unglück zu meiden; er schafft die Unterscheidung und täuscht die Aktivität; er drängt vorwärts und zieht zurück und wirft den Menschen sein ganzes Leben lang hin und her. Die Idee des Glücks, die oft nur eine andere Form von Bequemlichkeit ist, entsteht im Geist und konkretisiert sich in Objekten, die von den Händen und Gehirnen des Menschen geformt werden, wie das Flugzeug, das Radio und sogar die Bombe, die den mit Hass gesättigten Geist verwüstet und erfreut. Ideen, Wünsche, Begierden, Sehnsüchte – sie werden verwirklicht, und so ist die Welt nur das Produkt des Geistes. Tatsächlich ist das Universum selbst die Manifestation des göttlichen Geist, der gewollt hat, Ekoham bahusyam: „Ich bin eins, lass mich viele werden!“ Das Universum entstand im Geist Gottes, es keimte und breitete sich dort aus, und seither ist der Geist mächtig und durchdringend geworden. Für jeden von euch ist es der Geist, der die Welt färbt. Wenn er rein ist, ist die Welt angenehm; wenn er unrein ist, ist die Welt voller Gefahren.
