Iron gets rusted in the company of dust, and, as a result, it loses its strength. But its strength is restored when it is put in fire. First of all, you have to remove the dust from your mind. What is the dust? Dust is bad feelings that arise in one from bad company. It is only because of bad company that you get bad thoughts. Therefore, it is said, ‘Tell me your company and I shall tell you what you are’. Take time and enquire, but seek only the company of good people. When you are in a good position, everybody will come to you, calling you a good boy. But when you suffer a downfall, everybody will run away from you without even saying goodbye. Eisen rostet in der Nähe von Staub und verliert dadurch seine Festigkeit. Aber seine Stärke wird wiederhergestellt, wenn es ins Feuer gelegt wird. Zuallererst müsst ihr den Staub aus eurem Geist entfernen. Was ist der Staub? Staub sind schlechte Gefühle, die durch schlechte Gesellschaft im Innerem entstehen. Nur durch schlechte Gesellschaft kommt man auf schlechte Gedanken. Deshalb heißt es: „Sage mir, wer du bist, und ich werde dir sagen, was du bist.“ Nehmt euch Zeit und erkundigt euch, aber sucht nur die Gesellschaft von guten Menschen. Wenn ihr in einer guten Position seid, wird jeder zu euch kommen und euch „guter Junge“ (englisch: good boy) nennen. Aber wenn ihr einen Niedergang erleidet, wird jeder von euch davonlaufen, ohne sich zu verabschieden (englisch: goodbye). Das ist keine wahre Freundschaft. Was ist wahre Freundschaft? Ein wahrer Freund ist jemand, der euch wie ein Schatten folgt, selbst in Zeiten von Schwierigkeiten und Leid.
