This is the story of every one of you. This world is the jungle in which you roam; fear is the lion, which drives you up the tree of samsara – worldly activities. Anxiety is the bear that terrifies you and follows your steps in samsara; so, you slide down into attachments and binding deeds, through the twin roots of hope and despair. The two rats are day and night, which eat away the span of life. Meanwhile, you try to snatch a little joy from the sweet drops of egoism and ‘mine-feeling’. Finding at last that the drops are trivial and out of reach, you shout in agony for renunciation, calling on the Guru; the Guru appears, from within or beside you, and saves you from fear and anxiety. When you call out in all sincerity, the response will certainly come! Give up all low desire and call from an anguished heart. – Divine Discourse, Nov 24, 1965.

Das ist die Geschichte eines jeden von euch. Diese Welt ist der Dschungel, in dem ihr umherstreift; Angst ist der Löwe, der euch den Baum des Samsara – weltliche Aktivitäten – hinauftreibt. Die Angst ist der Bär, der euch Angst macht und eure Schritte in Samsara verfolgt; so gleitet ihr durch die Zwillingswurzeln von Hoffnung und Verzweiflung in Anhaftungen und bindende Taten hinab. Die beiden Ratten sind Tag und Nacht, die die Spanne des Lebens auffressen. Währenddessen versucht ihr, ein wenig Freude aus den süßen Tropfen des Egoismus und des „Ich-Gefühls“ zu erhaschen. Wenn ihr schließlich feststellt, dass die Tropfen unbedeutend und unerreichbar sind, ruft ihr unter Qualen nach Entsagung und ruft den Guru an; der Guru erscheint in eurem Inneren oder neben euch und rettet euch vor Furcht und Angst. Wenn ihr in aller Aufrichtigkeit ruft, wird die Antwort sicherlich kommen! Gebt alle niederen Wünsche auf und ruft aus einem gequälten Herzen.
